Eoin Ó Broin is a fully qualified plastic surgeon based in Cork University Hospital. He has been a consultant since 2002 with extensive experience in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He is on the specialist register of the Irish medical council and a member of the Irish association of plastic surgeons (IAPS) as well as the British associations of plastic and aesthetic surgeons (BAPRAS and BAAPS).
Cosmetic surgery has become commercialised and sometimes trivialised in the media. It is important to remember that while many cosmetic procedures are generally quite safe they are nonetheless operations with potential risks and problems and should not be undertaken lightly.
It is very important that such surgery should be carried out in a safe environment by a fully qualified consultant surgeon. It is also important that there is proper aftercare and continuity, which can not be delivered by ‘fly in fly out’ surgeons.
